## Malahat Firewood Delivery

The Malahat is the stretch of Highway 1 that climbs over the ridge between the West Shore and the Cowichan Valley, past the SkyWalk and Spectacle Lake. Homes along the pass and its side roads tend to be rural lots cut into rock and timber, often at the end of a long gravel drive, and a wood stove is ordinary equipment up here.

Winter is the catch. The summit can hold snow and ice while Victoria just gets rain, and the highway can close after storms or crashes. Book Malahat firewood in late summer or early fall, so the wood is stacked before the weather turns.

## Firewood in Goldstream

The Goldstream side runs from Goldstream Avenue on the Langford edge up toward Goldstream Provincial Park, known for its fall salmon run, the trail to Niagara Falls and the Freeman King Visitor Centre, with Mount Finlayson rising behind. Homes around Goldstream Heights and near the Humpback Reservoir sit among tall forest, so a woodpile spends much of the winter in shade.

In that shade, airflow does more than sun. Leave a gap between rows, keep the stack out from under dripping branches, and cover just the top so the sides can breathe. A row of pallets underneath keeps the bottom layer off the wet forest floor through the rainy months.
