Village Lots and Inlet Waterfront

Around the village and along West Saanich Road, most homes have a standard driveway and an easy drop. The waterfront can be different. Homes on the slopes above Saanich Inlet may have steep or winding driveways, and some sit below the road with only a narrow lane down to them.

If that sounds like your place, a dumped load may be best left at the top, where the truck can tip safely, and wheeled down from there. Tell us about the grade when you order so we can plan the drop together.

Farm Country Wood Heat

Central Saanich is one of the region's farming districts, with fields, greenhouses and farm stands along the roads between Brentwood Bay and Saanichton. Farmhouses and outbuildings out here often run on wood for at least part of the winter, and steady burning like that is where 2.5 cords for $1200 makes sense: one delivery, one fee, and a pile that lasts.

What's in a Load

Every cord is a mix of Douglas fir, western hemlock, alder and some maple, split and air-dried to under 20% moisture. Fir is the backbone of a long, hot winter fire. Alder catches quickly, which helps when you're relighting a cold stove in the morning. Hemlock burns well too, but it can pop and throw the odd spark, so keep the screen closed on an open fireplace.

Up the Highway
