Metchosin has kept its rural character: small farms, sheep and horse pasture, woodlots, and homes set well back on acreage near Witty's Lagoon and the coast. Many of those homes burn wood steadily through the winter, often in a stove that does most of the heating, and some keep a barn, shop or studio warm as well.

Booking an Extended-Zone Run

Metchosin is in our extended delivery zone, alongside the Highlands, Langford, Colwood, Goldstream and Sooke. Those deliveries are booked by schedule rather than squeezed in on the day, and the fee is higher than on the Peninsula to cover the distance. You'll know the fee before you commit.

If you heat with wood, order in late summer or early fall so the load is stacked before the first storms come in off the strait.

Coastal Wind and Rural Driveways

Homes near Pedder Bay and Rocky Point are open to wind and rain off the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A woodshed with a solid roof and slatted sides is the ideal setup. Failing that, put the stack where a building or hedge breaks the weather, and anchor any tarp well.
