Firewood Calculators

Free tools to help you estimate your firewood needs, understand cord sizing, and plan your winter heating budget.

What the cord calculator does

The firewood cord calculator gives you a rough estimate of how many cords you may burn in a season. You pick your home size, how you use wood heat (occasional fires, regular supplemental heat or your main heat source) and how cold your part of the region runs. It then shows an estimated number of cords and the wood cost at our prices: $475 for a cord, or $1200 for 2.5 cords, with the delivery fee by zone quoted up front. It is a planning tool, not a promise. Insulation, stove efficiency and the winter itself all change the real number.

How to measure a stack you already have

Measure your stacked wood in feet: height, depth (the length of the pieces in a single row) and length. Multiply the three together and divide by 128. A neat stack 4 feet high, 4 feet deep and 8 feet long is exactly one full cord. Measure the wood as stacked, not loosely piled, because a thrown pile has much more air in it.

Cord vs face cord

A full cord is 128 cubic feet: 4 by 4 by 8 feet. A face cord is the same 4 feet high and 8 feet long, but only one row deep. With 16-inch pieces, that is about a third of a full cord. When comparing prices, always ask which one you are being quoted. We sell full cords.

When to order more

Check your pile around mid-winter. If less than about a third of your expected season's wood is left, it is a good time to call. Ordering before you run out means the new wood can sit under cover for a few days before it goes in the stove. Every load of our seasoned firewood is split and air-dried to under 20% moisture, and delivery is usually same-week.
